LO2: Legal and Ethical

The website will require several things which will range from images of types of bees, environments and places that bees inhabit, some form of information graph or statistic and several 'bee' themed graphics.

I will need to get images and photos of bees and possible an apiary but if I am unable to do so, I will have to acquire the assets from a different source such as on the internet. However, to avoid copyright issues, I will ask for permission from the person/company who owns the images and photographs. I may also need to get some form of graphic that promotes a sustainable life for bees.

- Images of bees and an apiary(ies)
- Photo of areas where bees are endangered/affected
- Statistics for bee population in certain areas(?)

LO5: Evaluating the next steps of the development of the website

Evaluation:
After a series of user testing that I have sent out and received, I have detected that there are no problems with the website I have created. However, there are several improvements I could have made. The layout of the homepage could be more user friendly and the redundancy of certain links to the already accessible navigation bar. It would also help if I had more photos to use on the gallery and on the homepage, which means I should've also took photos myself outside of using images that are just available. I planned the website to be quite simple but I do think that it is a little too simple for a website that could have more features.

I also need to make sure that there are no information that is repeated multiple times through the different pages. This will prevent any getting the wrong information for a certain section. More graphics could also have been used for certain things such as the simple navigation bar. It could have been more visible and in some way, interactable.

Social media and of similar features could also be improved upon and made more clearer. I only used small icons for the social media links which make it seem a little insignificant. I could have made it more important by making a separate graphic for the icons and making it more in theme with the website.

LO4/LO5: Extensive User Testing and Feedback

Unit 34 – LO4 – User Testing

A) Navigation (Navigation easy to access and use? Do the controls work on the videos and music if any are available?)

B) Internal and External Hyperlinks (Internal links – to pages – and external links to other websites, videos and review/stats work?)

C) Page Load Times (Does the content load successfully? Does this differ across different mediums i.e. browser or smartphone)

D) Performance [on different browsers] (Chrome, Opera, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer)

E) Consistency of House Style (Colour scheme consistency, fonts logos and layout)

 

A) Navigation

The navigational feature of the website is easily accessible and it seems that there hasn’t been any form of difficulty across several tests. The layout and the links are consistent and are linked correctly from each page. The image carousels are also working as intended and haven’t posed any problems.

B) Internal and External Hyperlinks

The hyperlinks within the website are working accordingly; the link from the homepage (“Click Here”) redirects the user to the Contact page as intended. Each of the navigational links are correctly linked. The social media buttons are linked to their respective pages. 

C) Page Load Times

Each of the pages and the website itself loads quickly and it doesn’t seem like there’s any heavy delays in extended uses. The only noticeable delay is when using it on a smartphone, as it will take a little longer loading the assets than a pc would.

D) Performance of website when using different browsers

The website has been tested on 3 different browsers: Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome and all of them provided the same performance. 

E) Consistency of house style

The style is consistent across the  the different pages of the website. This is to provide some continuity and to prevent any confusion for the user when accessing the website.

Unit 34 - Things that need to be done

- Find more photographs to add to the website photo reel
- Set up the 3 page minimum
- Create more assets i.e. buttons graphics and small label icons

What I have managed to do today:
- Find more photographs for the website
- Set up all of the pages to link to each other (Need to work on the different layouts for each pages)
- I still need to create more graphics i.e. icons

Website Progress - What I have done so far

I have started to gather assets to add to the homepage which includes a new banner, several photographs of bees with reference and I have started making small icons for the different sections on the webpage i.e. Types of bees will have a bee graphic to represent it.

I will continue to create more graphics and working on the layout of the page to make it as easy to navigate and as easy on the eyes as possible.
